If you want to hop right in to something, be sure to check out our Events page to see when you can drop in! All of our events are open to the public, with the exception of classes which are sometimes pay-to-participate.
Beacon Food Forest has been run by volunteers since it began in 2010. Core volunteers have self-organized into committees that meet regularly and communicate via Slack and/or email. You are welcome to join any of these meetings or join our Slack channels to get more involved- feel free to just observe and ask questions! This is a great place to get to know our core volunteers and see how our work is organized behind the scenes. Check out the team descriptions below and contact us if you want to learn more about a specific team.
Site Development
“Site Dev” is where the shakers and movers meet. This team leads the charge on the overall development and maintenance of the site, organizes tasks for major work parties, performs plant and site care, and more. If you’re interested in getting your hands in the dirt and helping shape the site, attend a meeting!

Education
This team plans classes and workshops at Beacon Food Forest, as well as other education initiatives such as signs on site. Volunteers either teach classes themselves or hire educators.

Community Development
“ComDev” works with our Community Relations Director to connect with the community, partner with other organizations, organize events and develop recommendations for our organizational culture.

Pollinator +
Also known as the “Bee Team”, this group tends the honey bee hives and works on expanding native pollinator habitat on site. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you safe in a spiffy bee suit!

Grantwriting & Fundraising
As a volunteer-led organization, we are always looking for funding opportunities to help us move our vision forward. We welcome people with interest and/or skills in this area.

BIPOC Garden
This is a project organized by POC with the intention to grow plants and foods that are culturally relevant to the BIPOC community, while also working to create space for people of color within green spaces.
Project centered meetings are irregular.

Native Guilds
This project is dedicated to re-creating wetland, forest, and prairie habitats of the Pacific Northwest. At the heart of our guild is learning about the relationships that plants have had with people and each other since time immemorial.
